Just a few thoughts on the war
I'm travelling outside the United States right now, to a country whose head of government has been very supportive of Israel so far (and been criticized for that support). I've been following the war on the internet very closely and hope that this will finally bring an end to Hezbollah -- with as few casualties (on either side) as possible. I'm very grateful for the support of Israel from almost all sides of the political spectrum in the US.
I took a few minutes to write an email to an old friend in Zefat with whom I'd fallen out of contact. He responded "between bombardments" that he was still there, that it was great to hear from me, and to keep praying.
I also saw some awful anti-Muslim graffitti here near where I'm staying. It reminded me that Jews are not the only hated people in the world. I pray for this conflict to end soon, and for good.

Since Hezbollah is a terrorist organization that is devoted to Israel's destruction, why do you hope for minimal casualties for them? On a very pragmatic level, it is unrealistic to expect them to change and accept peaceful co-existance with Israel. So the fewer of them left to kill Israelis another day, the better.
As a general rule, we hold life to be a most precious commodity. But a rodeif is an exception- let a thousand Hezbollah attackers die rather than one innocent victim.
I said, "bring an end" to Hezbollah.
Was that not clear?

i think it's safe to assume he was referring to civilian casualties; the innocent Lebanese who get caught in the crossfire.
on the other hand, there's always Bruriya's Rule of "hope the bad guys repent so they don't have to get killed"
Regarding graffitti, in the Netherlands the hatred seems to be currently distributed liberally to the following, in probably equal amounts:
Jews.
Americans.
North Africans.
Dark-complected people.
Supporters of Ajax ("the Jews").
Supporters of Feijenoord or FC Utrecht ("Hamas").
Meat-eaters.
Members of the Liberal Party.
Members of the cabinet.
Gosh, what can I say? It's a hate-filled little country.
If it weren't for their great literature, I would have little reason to even remember how to read and write their language any more.
